Uganda

Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world. The vast majority of Ugandans are farmers on small plots of land owned by landlords, and the farmers don't see much if any of the profit. Sixty-nine percent of the population lives on less than one dollar (US) a day, most of which  is spent on food. The majority of Ugandan citizens struggle to acquire even the most basic health care. However, Uganda is the first country in the world with a massive AIDS problem to greatly reduce the numbers of the afflicted from possibly 25%of the population  in 1992 to 6.7% in 2011.

The East African Revival brought new life and fervency to the church in Uganda, in which the centrality of Christ was expressed in repentance, brokenness, and walking in the light. In November of 2012, the president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, openly confessed specific sins of the nation, and prayed the following prayer:

“We want to dedicate this nation to you so that you will be our God and guide. We want Uganda to be known as a nation that fears God and as a nation whose foundations are firmly rooted in righteousness and justice to fulfill what the Bible says in Psalm 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. A people you have chosen as your own.”
